There was some unexpected drama in Toronto on Sunday at ATP 1000.

Ben Shelton faced American tennis, Flavio Copoli, in a tense exchange in the net after its match.

After a tight defeat Copoli, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (1), Shelton simulated a gesture that his opponent saw in the tie and asked if he was directed to him.

Copoli, 23, explained that the matter was not related to Celton and they shared a handshake, as it appears in a video on social media.

“You deserve it, this match, but it is not always with you,” said Copoli.

They took things to the sidelines, where Copoli repeated that she was not about Shelton.

“And if you say something (directed at me), I will tell you something because we are friends, no?” Shelton, who was without a shirt at this point, said.

“Of course” replied.

The two shared another handshake.

“But you said it is not (about), we have erased him and we are fine. I am sorry for the match,” she said, 22 years old.

“It is one game that I do not care about. I won and this is all,” said Copoli. “Can you understand my frustration, no?”

“I can. We will talk.”.

During his press conference after the match, Shelton said they spoke again separately.

“He made a gesture in a tie (and I) I asked him about it. He said he was not me, so we are wonderful,” Shelton said.

Shelton, ranked 7, is scheduled to face the eighth seed of Alex de Minor in the quarter -finals on Tuesday.
