Facing the concepts of misconceptions and Grubs’ Youtubers by sharing the stories of interfering husbands
There is a couple from Minnesota with the famous social media follow -up with a new book on relationships – specifically, relationships like their relationships where one person suffers from disability and the other person does not.
Shen and Hanna Borcao may know from the YouTube channel, which is called My party and larvaeIt has 1.85 million subscribers. They wrote the book “International”, on how to see them and the other husbands of each other and move to the world. Hannah and Shen joins the MPR news product to talk about it.
Why do you want to write a book on romantic relationships with one person who has a disability and one person not?
Shin: Hana and I have made online content about our lives and our relationship about eight years ago. I was born with a physical disability, Hana, my wife, is not handicapped. While we started making our content and sharing our lives via the Internet, we discovered that our society has many misconceptions that have truly spoiled the interrelated relationships like us and disability. A lot of negative stigmatization and stereotypes. So we wrote the book to respond to this ignorance and wrong information.
Your book was sometimes very funny. This is the criterion for your YouTube channel, “Squirmy and GRUBS.” All the couples I spoke to the book have experienced very difficult times as well. How do these novels balance?
Shin: It was important for us to be authentic to every couple and to give their story a kind of dignity and respect he deserved. It was sometimes difficult, because these husbands were at risk with us and shared some of the very difficult moments of life and some beautiful moments of life as well. Thus we took every couple for what they were and what they wanted to share with us, and we tried to show the heart of their story. It was sometimes difficult, the budget of good and bad. But this is life, as you know. I think this is a good advantage for this book. It is really true to what is life.
Have you seen a line of assumptions by people over husbands in overlapping relationships?
Hana: a lot. Many of them deal with a family that does not support the relationship. Also, people in public places are assuming that they are not a couple, things like that.
Shin: There is this basic idea that we all faced, and that the disabled partner cannot be a good partner, simply by disrupting them. This is not true. This is the main task of this book: to show the world that the disabled can make great romantic partners. All couples in our book are a testimony to that.
I have mentioned in a number of YouTube videos that people leave comments really, negative things about your relationship. How do you continue to make content, or even continue to want to make content when you face it?
Shin: Sometimes it is really difficult. Someone commented on a publication and indicated to me that he is vegetables, it is clear in a negative way. This comment got more than 50,000 likes from other people. True people in the world who are ok, with a blatant disabled person insulting just because of his disruption. These people have jobs, families and sounds, and this idea, if we allow ourselves to roam them, they are really frustrated. But he also defended us. These are the people who need education, and they need awareness to improve their understanding of disability.
Hana: I try not to read the comments as much as possible. I did not do for a long time. This helps, to control this and focus on making videos, which we really enjoy. I think this is a large part of it. We would like to make videos together. I love editing them. We do this process and then know the largest possible number of people.
Shin: And remember that all conspiracies, such as, “We are not a real couple”, such things are all based on the fact that they believe that I cannot be a good partner because I am handicapped. I just need to remember that they are wrong. This is not only true. We want to show people that.
