I Took Away a Waitress’ Tip, and I Don’t Regret It / Bright Side
“All this happened a few nights ago, and I still cannot believe that it fell as it happened.
My partner went out to an Italian restaurant that we had several times before. It is not a great place, but it is fun enough so that you can sit, ask for some drinks, and spend a comfortable evening.
Our servant, which we will call Samantha, seemed outside it all the time. I forgot my drink twice, I took out the wrong beginners, then disappeared when it seemed to be forever when it was time to ask for candy.
It was not the end of the world. I have worked in customer service myself, so I get these crowded nights you can get a little wilderness. However, the service was really bad.
When the check came, I paid and left a 10 % cash advice. It was not a large amount, but it was not anything either. I felt it was reasonable given the circumstances.
We just woke up to leave when Samantha walked, took money, and said, “seriously? Is this?” She said loudly enough that some people on the nearby tables turned into a staring.
I was shocked and I did not know what to say at first. Then she added: “You know, the servers cannot pay for people like you. The cheap people should not eat.”
The complete silence of the entire restaurant, such the type of silence that you hear in the comic play. My girlfriend was clearly swinging.
I stayed calm and told her, “Well, I am sorry that you feel this way,” and we started leaving. But then, I am not joking, muttered, “whatever it is, cheap,” loudly enough for us and others to hear him.
So, she turned, returned to the table, took the party, and left without saying another word.
My girlfriend later told me that I dealt with her well, but a friend of mine believes that I went very far by restoring the party, saying that regardless of that, you should leave him and move forward. I feel that I was reprimanding and insulting more than 10 % that I already left was completely out of the border.
So, am I wrong to restore the limb after she shouted at everyone in the restaurant? “
