Joel Diaz: It’s “Deploy” thinking Crawford beats Canelo

Coach Joel Diaz says he does not believe Terence Crawford will be able to go with Canelo Alvarez’s punch without annoying in their ‘Battle of the Century’ on September 13th. He notes that the larger natural fighter, Canelo (63-2-2, 39 kos), will be able to take the punch from Crawford (41-0, 31 KOS), but will not be able to treat it in exchange.

The two pressure classes that Crawford, 37, will move up to challenge Canelo for his undoubted 168 championship. Diaz states that Crawford could not do “nothing” when moving up from 147 to 154 to challenge Israil Madrimov for his WBA mid -weight title on August 3, 2024.

Now, Terence is moving up two weight classes to fight Canelo in Super Middleweight, and it’s going to get a worse result. Crawford cannot count on the judges to their bail as they did against Madrimov because he is not the side and this time.

“Many people say Crawford can’t beat Canelo no problem. I respect that, but I think they’re stupid,” said coach Joel Diaz Offerop. “A larger man’s size difference changes everything with one punch, and I can see the same thing.”

Mayweather’s blueprint will not work

The best Crawford can hope for with his size, power and proven disadvantage is to follow Mayweather and Erislandy Lara’s blueprint to All -foxing Canelo. Even then, he would need to rely on the judges putting pressure on his lighter punch against the much more difficult, cleaner canelo shots.

They gave credit to Mayweather, but that was years ago, in 2013. Crawford is older, slowerAnd he does not have the popularity that Floyd had when Alvarez fought. He will still have no weight to weaken Canelo the way Mayweather made them fight 152 lbs, and faces a stronger version of the Mexican star. Floyd did not fight the 2025 version. If he did, he would have been forced to run around the ring more and use a lot of holding.

Madrimov Fighting Comparison

“You saw Canelo Alvarez fighting Amir Khan. Look at this. Terence Crawford moved from 147 to 154 to fight (Israil) Madrimov. What did his Madrimov do? Nothing,” said Diaz. “Israil Madrimov is a 154-weighter. Now to move up to 168, that’s two more sections.”

Canelo is more powerful and aggressive than Madrimov. It will not waste time using all the endless sizes that Madrimov used. He undermined his chances of winning the fighting by using too many sizes and not using his natural size, power, and youth advantage to stack great guidance over Terence in the first half. Madrimov could have done so easily if he had fought more aggressively.

Canelo is resistant to GGG punch

“Canelo Alvarez will take any punch of Crawford, but I don’t think Crawford will take any punch of Canelo. Remember, Canelo was hit by GGG, the heaviest percussion in that section (middle weight), and Canelo took those shots as a champ. I don’t think Crawford has anything to beat.

If Canelo contacts the type of shots he hit William Scull and Edgar Berlanga with them in his last two fights, Crawford will have a difficult time taking. Whatever fights is in it, it can disappear. We know that Crawford is known for being a competitor, but if hit, he will box out of self-preservation. Once he does so, there will be any chance of winning down the drain.
